This weekend, I had the pleasure of partnering with eco-social designer Christoph Matt to run the workshop "Future 2125: Keep Me Posted", an innovative workshop that brought together community members of all ages at Borgarbókasafnið Grófinni, Reykjavík's central library.
As part of the library's upcoming Future Festival, we created a space for collective imagination and dialogue about the world we hope to build, with a particular focus on the future of Reykjavík. The workshop was part of the library's upcoming Future Festival, as an opportunity to reflect on key aspects of what future we might want in the world, and in Reykjavík specifically. Participants were invited to make small postcards 'from the future' by cutting out images from books and magazines destined to be pulped. Prompts asked the participants to reflect on one of several key themes: future cities, food, work, politics, animals, tools, and more. These thought-provoking collages will be sent to philosophy students at Háskóli Íslands, who will interpret the visual narratives and compose reflective pieces to accompany each work.
If you're intrigued by this exploration of our collective future, don't miss the Future Festival itself, 25 January. The postcards will be reimagined as collectible objects, available at various stalls throughout the event. As you move through the festival, these artefacts from an imagined tomorrow will spark conversations about the critical issues shaping our future - exactly the kind of meaningful dialogue the Festival aims to foster.
