HAFNAR.Z!NE (HZ) is a community-driven publication emerging from hafnar.haus, Iceland's premier creative co-working space. Each issue explores a theme chosen by community vote, featuring submissions from its members. The series spans nine editions:

  1. The Issue Issue

  2. The Burnout Issue

  3. The Rituals Issue

  4. The Memory Issue

  5. The Nothing Issue

  6. The Plant Issue

  7. The Sex Issue

  8. The Transformation Issue

  9. The Finale Issue

Each volume represents collaborative social design research through the lens of community experience and expression.

The inaugural issue explored meta-questions of zine creation: How to produce a publication with minimal resources, distill 300+ creative voices onto a single sheet, and foster community ownership. The challenge was transforming these constraints into a powerful placemaking tool for Iceland's creative community.

In addition, hafnar.haus now also features three new community spaces connected to the zines:
- OPEN STUDIO: For bookbinding, publication design, and DIY publishing
- OPEN LIBRARY: Community knowledge sharing
- OPEN GALLERY: Exhibition space

These additions support community members in materializing their creative visions and sharing them with society.

The zines were designed by Christoph Matt, produced in Hafnar.Haus, and were a labour of love inclusive of many of the community's members. I was contributor to issues 2-9, producer on issues 3-9 and lead editor on issues 5-9.
